On 30 September 2026, Gunjur Kulukochi Community Pre-School in The Gambia held a staff workshop titled “Strengthening Staff Preparedness for Safe, Effective and Successful Volunteer Engagement,” with support from VolNet and the weltwärts programme.
The workshop brought together the school’s staff team, Volunteer Coordinator Gentle, and a representative from a local clinic to strengthen the school’s preparation for welcoming and supporting VolNet volunteers.
Through practical and interactive sessions, staff explored their roles and responsibilities in volunteer engagement, learned about VolNet and the weltwärts programme and its support structures, and discussed how clear communication and effective planning can help volunteers contribute positively to school life.

Safeguarding and security were key topics, with a focus on protecting children and maintaining a safe environment for everyone. A clinic representative also provided guidance on accessing medical support and delivered a practical introduction to basic first aid.
The workshop further addressed teachers’ weekly planning and the school’s annual action plan, highlighting how good organisation helps integrate volunteers into existing school activities.
The training strengthened staff awareness, confidence and preparedness, providing a valuable foundation for safe, well-organised and meaningful volunteer engagement.
